A New Castle resident has been taken into custody following the armed robbery of the Family First Federal Credit Union on May 17. The suspect, identified as Burnell Williams, aged 60, voluntarily surrendered himself to the authorities after learning that charges had been filed against him.

Details of the Robbery

The robbery took place at the credit union located on Moravia Street at approximately 4:41 p.m. According to a witness account, Williams entered the premises wearing a medical mask and demanded money from the tellers. He brandished a gun and left with a sum of $1,641, leaving behind a green Crown Royal bag.

Following the initial theft, Williams proceeded to another employee and forcibly took an additional $1,600 in $100 bills. Witnesses on the scene reported seeing the suspect wielding a firearm and making threats towards the staff.

Law enforcement officers reviewed surveillance footage of the incident, which clearly showed Williams committing the robbery. The suspect was identified through his social media alias “Nelly Nell,” where he boasted about being a “retired bank robber.”

It was also discovered that Williams had a prior conviction for robbery in 1990 and was prohibited from possessing firearms due to his felon status.
