Recently, parts of the manifesto of Audrey Elizabeth Hale, the transgender school shooter who tragically took the lives of three children and three adults at The Covenant School last year, have been uncovered. According to a report by The Tennessee Star, handwritten pages authored by Hale have shed light on her thoughts leading up to the devastating incident.
The Tennessee Star has obtained nearly four dozen images of notebook pages written by Hale, recovered from the vehicle she drove to The Covenant School on March 27, 2023. One of the pages reviewed by The Star is a journal entry dated February 20, 2023, just 35 days before the attack.
In this journal entry, Hale delves into various political topics, including the rights of gun owners, transgender individuals, and non-binary people in the United States. Despite being biologically female, Hale identified as a transgender man at the time of the attack.
“So now in America, it makes one a criminal to have a gun or be transgender or non-binary,” wrote Hale. Expressing frustration with politicians, she added, “God, I hate those s***head politicians.”
Furthermore, Hale touched on the rights of different groups, stating, “Disabled have rights, civil races have rights, LGBTQ have rights, gun owners have rights.” Her manifesto did not overtly reference a specific political party but cautioned against the US adopting stricter gun control laws akin to those in the UK or Europe.
While the manifesto provides a glimpse into Hale’s mindset before the tragic events at The Covenant School, it also underscores the complexity of her identity and the internal struggles she faced regarding her gender.
