Authorities in Auburn Hills, Michigan, are on the hunt for a driver who fled the scene of a deadly crash that occurred on Thursday evening.
The incident took place at 7 p.m. on June 6, 2024, when a red 2020 Kia Forte was spotted speeding on Lapeer Road by a vigilant police officer. Despite attempts to pull over the vehicle, the driver refused to comply and instead accelerated to speeds of up to 88 miles per hour.
After a brief pursuit, the officer decided to terminate the chase near Zelma Drive, turning off the emergency lights and bringing the patrol vehicle to a stop. However, the Kia continued south on Lapeer Road, eventually colliding with a 2002 Ford F-150 at the intersection of Walton Boulevard and Perry Street.
Tragically, the driver of the Ford, a 68-year-old man from Auburn Hills, was pronounced dead at the hospital. Meanwhile, a female passenger in the Kia sustained critical injuries and was rushed to a nearby medical facility for treatment.
Despite the severity of the crash, the driver of the Kia managed to escape on foot, prompting a search effort by Auburn Hills police officers and the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office K-9 team. As of now, the driver remains at large.
