Law enforcement authorities in Kansas City have confirmed the identity of the victim who lost his life in a horrific accident involving a speeding and potentially impaired driver.

According to a statement released by the Kansas City, Missouri, Police Department on Friday, June 7th, the deceased individual has been identified as Troy Chatman Jr., aged 54.

The tragic incident occurred just before 7:40 p.m. on Saturday, June 1st, when emergency services were alerted to a multi-vehicle collision on eastbound I-70 and Manchester Ave.

Upon arriving at the scene, first responders discovered that a gold Chevrolet Equinox had been travelling at high speed down eastbound I-70 when it collided with a black Toyota Camry, a black Ford Expedition driven by Chatman, and a black Ford F-150.

The impact of the collision caused Chatman’s SUV to skid and overturn onto its roof before rolling down an embankment. Unfortunately, Chatman, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from the vehicle and succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

The driver of the speeding vehicle was transported to a nearby hospital with injuries that were deemed non-life-threatening. Thankfully, the other drivers and passengers involved in the crash escaped unharmed.

The Kansas City Police Department has disclosed that the driver responsible for the collision is currently under investigation for suspected impairment. This tragic incident marks the 45th traffic fatality in Kansas City in 2024, which is a significant increase from the 32 fatalities recorded at the same time last year.
