Accident – Death – Obituary News :

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. (First Alert 4) – A man from Kalamazoo, Michigan, is now facing an identity theft charge in addition to charges filed against him in 1994.

In 1994, Robert D. Mason III, 53, allegedly shot a man four times with the intent to kill him and forcefully entered a woman’s home in Alton while armed with a weapon. He was charged with one count of attempted first-degree murder and one count of home invasion. Authorities were unable to locate Mason after the charges were initially filed.

An Alton resident raised concerns to the police, claiming that his identity had been used in a fraudulent financial transaction. Following an investigation, Mason was identified as a suspect, leading to his arrest by Alton police and the U.S. Marshals Service in Kalamazoo.

Alongside the 1994 charges, Mason now finds himself confronting an additional count of identity theft. Madison County State’s Attorney, Thomas A. Haine, has submitted a petition for Mason to be held in custody pending trial.
