LEITCHFIELD, Ky. – A peculiar incident unfolded in Grayson County as multiple individuals found themselves in a predicament on U.S. 62 after their vehicle ran out of gas, leading to a series of arrests, according to the Grayson County Sheriff’s Office.

The authorities were alerted on Thursday, June 6, around 8 a.m. about a vehicle obstructing traffic on the highway. Upon reaching the scene, deputies were surprised to find two passengers in the back seat who had been asleep until a barking dog inside the car woke them up.

Subsequent investigation revealed that the driver, identified as 47-year-old Richard W. May from Harold, Kentucky, had gone to fetch gasoline after the vehicle stalled in the middle of the road.

Authorities identified the two passengers as 42-year-old John D. Absher from Bunker Hill, Indiana, and 34-year-old Casey M. Lester from Tollesboro, Kentucky. Both individuals initially provided false identities.

Absher required medical attention from a sheriff and Grayson County EMS due to a potential seizure and was later transferred from OH Twin Lakes Hospital to a hospital in Louisville. During a search of the vehicle, deputies discovered methamphetamines in a small baggie.

Lester was found to have active warrants for her arrest related to parole bond violations, including charges for public intoxication, promoting contraband, first-degree possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine), third-degree burglary, and theft by unlawful taking (misdemeanor).

Absher, on the other hand, had outstanding warrants in Jefferson County, Kentucky, for failure to comply with sex offender registry requirements, promoting contraband, possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine), violation of registered sex offender restrictions, receiving stolen property, and providing false information to an officer.

May was charged with possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine). Furthermore, the dog found in the vehicle was safely taken into the care of animal control and transferred to the Grayson County Animal Shelter.

Lester and May were apprehended and transported to the Grayson County Detention Center, while Absher is set to be lodged at the detention center following medical clearance.
