Accident – Death – Obituary News :
A man from Vernon County, Westby, Wis., has been charged in connection to a recent shooting incident, according to court records.
Nakeil Bettis, 44 years old, is facing charges of 1st-degree recklessly endangering safety- domestic abuse, battery-domestic abuse, disorderly conduct-domestic abuse, and resisting or obstructing an officer.
The incident took place on May 6, 2024, at a residence on West Smith Road in rural Viroqua-Westby, Wis., located in the Town of Viroqua.
Authorities were alerted to an altercation at the location around 11:15 a.m., during which a firearm was reportedly discharged.
The Vernon County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene and confirmed that the victim was safe at another location. The suspect, identified as Nakeil Bettis, was spotted fleeing into a nearby cornfield. He was apprehended at approximately 11:30 a.m.
Law enforcement officers discovered evidence of a firearm discharge at the scene, as well as a handgun believed to be used in the incident.
