Skeletal Remains identified as Missing Georgia Woman Near Volkswagen Plant in Tennessee

Skeletal remains discovered near a Volkswagen manufacturing plant in Tennessee have been confirmed to belong to Maury-Ange Faith Martinez, a 20-year-old woman reported missing from Gwinnett County, Georgia last year.

According to a news release from the Cobb County Police Department, Martinez was reported missing on August 28, 2023, with no details provided about the circumstances surrounding her disappearance, other than it was suspected to have occurred in unincorporated Cobb County.

The skeletal remains were found on January 5, 2024, in a rural area close to the Volkswagen assembly plant in Chattanooga, Tennessee, approximately 130 miles south of Nashville.

An ongoing investigation into Martinez’s disappearance is being conducted by the authorities, who have urged anyone with information related to the case to come forward and assist with the investigation.

Anita Darling, Martinez’s mother, shared with a local news station that her daughter had a passion for fashion, colour, and photography, as well as a gift for making people feel good. She recounted how she was en route to pick up her daughter when she vanished, and expressed the family’s continued hope for closure and answers.

“I know that something happened to her,” Darling stated. “Her sisters deserve to know, and I deserve to know. Step up and say something.”
