The 38-year-old man from Lake Orion was located on Friday at 5 p.m.

The incident took place on the evening of Thursday, June 6, at 7 p.m. when a law enforcement officer in Auburn Hills observed a red 2020 Kia Forte travelling at high speeds along Lapeer West Road. Despite attempts to pull the vehicle over, the driver failed to stop and accelerated to 88 miles per hour.

After a pursuit of half a mile, the officer decided to cease following the Kia near Zelma Drive. Subsequently, the patrol car’s emergency lights were turned off and the vehicle came to a stop.

Reports indicate that the Kia continued its journey south on Lapeer Road, eventually crossing a small hill and heading in the direction of Walton Boulevard. Smoke was sighted at the intersection of Walton Boulevard and Perry Street, prompting the officer to investigate.

It was discovered that the Kia had collided with a 2002 Ford F-150. Following the crash, the 38-year-old driver of the Kia fled the scene, leaving behind a female passenger who was subsequently taken to hospital in critical condition.

Tragically, the driver of the Ford, a 68-year-old man from Auburn Hills, was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The swift action of the citizen who reported the individual hiding in the wooded area played a crucial role in the apprehension of the driver, ensuring that justice can be served in this heartbreaking incident.
