HILLTOWN — In a devastating turn of events, Bucks County authorities have officially named the victim of a fatal crash that took place in the early hours of Sunday morning at the intersection of Green Street and Rickerts Road in Hilltown Township.
Police Pursuit of Unregistered Polaris Vehicle
The incident began when law enforcement officers spotted an unregistered Polaris vehicle on Green Street, near the junction with Mill Road, at approximately 1 a.m. on June 2. Suspecting possible impairment on the part of the driver, who was seen veering partially off the road, police attempted to conduct a traffic stop.
As the vehicle fled down Green Street and tried to make a right turn onto Rickerts Road, the driver lost control, causing the vehicle to flip over. Tragically, both occupants of the vehicle were partially ejected during the rollover crash. The passenger, identified as 35-year-old Joseph Kay from Hilltown, was pronounced dead at the scene.
A Tragic Loss for the Community
Joseph Kay, the deceased passenger, was a dedicated volunteer firefighter with the Plumsteadville Fire Company. The district attorney’s office expressed their condolences to Kay’s family, acknowledging his invaluable service to the community.
The driver of the vehicle, whose identity has not been disclosed by the authorities, sustained minor injuries but declined medical attention. A post-mortem examination conducted on Wednesday determined that Kay’s cause of death was attributed to blunt force trauma.
