A 57-year-old man from Woodland, Washington, was taken into custody on Wednesday after allegedly attempting to lure a young girl into his vehicle at a bus stop. The incident took place near South Cloverdale Road, where the man, identified as James Lee Porter, was seen driving a white Toyota pickup truck with a cargo rack.
According to the Cowlitz County Sheriff’s Office, the 12-year-old girl reported that the man had approached her multiple times, urging her to get into his truck by claiming that there were “two scary men nearby” who were approaching her. The girl, however, did not see anyone else in the vicinity and was quick to recognize the potential danger, as her parents had never authorized her to enter a stranger’s vehicle.
Concerned about the safety of the students, the school bus driver was informed about the incident after the truck had driven past the bus. The driver promptly reported the matter to the authorities, leading to the retrieval of surveillance footage that identified the vehicle matching Porter’s truck parked on South Cloverdale Road.
Following the investigation, James Lee Porter was arrested and taken to the Cowlitz County Jail to face charges of luring a minor. In a bid to gather more information and prevent any further incidents, the sheriff’s office released a picture of the truck, urging the public to come forward with any relevant details they might have.
