TRACY, CA (June 7, 2024) – The tragic death of 17-year-old Elijah Watson of Stockton has left the community in mourning after he was killed in a high-speed crash on the 205 Freeway on Wednesday evening.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that the fatal incident occurred on June 5 around 6:30 p.m. Watson was driving on the freeway when he attempted to change lanes and accidentally sideswiped another vehicle near El Rancho Road.
The impact of the collision caused both vehicles to veer off the road and roll down an embankment. Sadly, Watson was ejected from his vehicle during the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency responders.
Authorities identified the other driver involved in the crash as a 62-year-old man from Plymouth, who reportedly fled the scene after the collision. Thanks to the cooperation of witnesses, law enforcement officers were able to locate and apprehend the suspect shortly after the incident.
It has been confirmed that a criminal case against the fleeing driver is not currently pending, but the CHP is conducting a thorough investigation to determine the exact cause of the fatal accident. Additional details will be released as they become available.
