A devastating incident unfolded in the streets of Pattaravakkam near Ambattur on Thursday night, resulting in the untimely death of a young college student. The victim, identified as E Yogalakshmi, was a 19-year-old pursuing a B.com degree at a private college in the area.
According to reports, Yogalakshmi was riding pillion on a bike driven by her friend, Vishal (19), when tragedy struck. As they were travelling down the Pattaravakkam bridge, another bike travelling in the wrong lane collided head-on with their vehicle, causing them to be thrown off.
Despite the impact, Vishal only suffered minor injuries, while Yogalakshmi, who was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident, sustained severe injuries. They were immediately rushed to the Government Kilpauk Medical College and Hospital, where Yogalakshmi was tragically pronounced dead upon arrival.
The rider of the other bike, identified as Sekar, was reportedly attempting a U-turn from the service lane adjoining the flyover, leading to the fatal collision. The Red Hills traffic investigation police have taken action by registering a case of causing death due to negligence against Sekar and are currently conducting a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
This heartbreaking incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of road safety measures and the need for strict enforcement of traffic regulations to prevent such tragic accidents from occurring in the future.
