Dustin M. Thompson : “Man Arrested for Assaulting KSP Trooper”

RAYWICK, Ky. (WBKO) – A Nelson County resident has been apprehended by authorities after assaulting and strangling a Kentucky State Police trooper following a vehicle chase.

The incident unfolded when the KSP officer attempted to conduct a routine traffic stop on Clarkstown Road in Nelson County just past midnight on June 7, as per a KSP statement.

The situation escalated into a pursuit after the driver, later identified as 31-year-old Dustin M. Thompson from New Hope, failed to comply with the officer’s instructions. The pursuit ended in Marion County after the route reached a dead end.

Thompson then fled on foot, prompting the officer to give chase. Upon catching up with Thompson, the altercation ensued, resulting in the assault before Thompson managed to evade the scene.

Following an extensive search operation, Thompson was eventually located and taken into custody. Charges levelled against him include first-degree strangulation, first-degree assault of a law enforcement officer, disarming a peace officer, and theft of a firearm by unlawful means.

The trooper involved in the incident has since been treated and discharged from medical care.
