Accident – Death – Obituary News :

A woman from Benton Harbor, identified as Anna-Alicia Bishop, is currently in custody following a dramatic police chase that spanned state lines overnight. The pursuit culminated in a crash on the US-31 Bypass, leaving a trail of chaos and destruction in its wake.

The incident began when deputies from the Berrien County Sheriff’s Office initiated a chase of a stolen Ford Focus. The pursuit continued until the vehicle crossed the state line into Indiana via the southbound lanes of the US-31 Bypass at approximately 11 p.m. on Thursday.

A vigilant St. Joseph County police officer later spotted the stolen Ford Focus in the vicinity of Cleveland Road and State Road 933. The officer began tailing the vehicle, prompting Bishop to accelerate and drive recklessly through all lanes of traffic on Cleveland Road as she headed west towards the US-31 Bypass.

Despite law enforcement’s efforts to halt the vehicle’s progress by deploying stop-sticks on Cleveland near Mayflower Road, Bishop managed to evade capture. The Ford Focus continued onto the bypass and headed northbound back towards Michigan, with a deflated tire from the stop-stick deployment.

However, Bishop’s luck ran out approximately half a mile south of the state line when she lost control of the Ford Focus, causing it to crash into the ditch of the bypass. Law enforcement officers swiftly apprehended Bishop at the scene, and she was subsequently taken into custody.

Anna-Alicia Bishop now faces preliminary charges of resisting law enforcement using a vehicle and possession of stolen property. She has been booked into the St. Joseph County Jail, where she awaits further legal proceedings.
