A Spotsylvania County woman accused of murdering her three roommates was arrested in New York following a high-speed police chase on Thursday evening. 23-year-old Alyssa Jane Venable was apprehended in Steuben County with the assistance of the United States Marshals Service and the New York State Police.

The arrest occurred after New York state troopers attempted to pull over a 2009 Honda Civic, the vehicle known to be driven by Venable. She refused to stop, leading to a pursuit that reached speeds of up to 100 mph. Tire deflation devices were eventually deployed, causing Venable to crash the Civic. She was then arrested without incident and taken to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

Once released from the hospital, Venable will be held at the Steuben County Jail pending extradition back to Virginia. She is facing three counts of second-degree murder and one count of using a firearm while committing a felony in connection with the deaths of her roommates.

The victims, identified as 77-year-old Robert John McGuire, 60-year-old Gregory Scott Powell, and 65-year-old Carol Anne Reese, were found dead with upper body trauma in their Spotsylvania residence. The investigation began after a welfare check was conducted by deputies at the property.

Venable quickly became a suspect in the case, leading to a warrant being issued for her arrest. The swift apprehension in New York brings a sense of closure to the tragic incident that shook the community. The Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the murders.

Authorities are working to ensure that justice is served for the victims and their families. Venable’s upcoming extradition back to Virginia will mark the next step in the legal process as the case unfolds. The collaborative efforts of law enforcement agencies across state lines have been crucial in swiftly apprehending the suspect.

The community is urged to come forward with any additional information that may assist in the investigation. The tragic events serve as a reminder of the importance of vigilance and cooperation in maintaining the safety and security of our neighborhoods.
