SPOTSYLVANIA COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — A 23-year-old Spotsylvania County woman, Alyssa Jane Venable, has been arrested in New York after being accused of the murder of her three roommates. The arrest took place in Steuben County, New York, following a high-speed police chase reaching speeds of up to 100 mph.

The arrest was carried out with the assistance of the United States Marshals Service and the New York State Police on Thursday, June 6, according to a press release from the Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s Office.

High-Speed Chase and Arrest

At approximately 5:45 p.m. on Thursday, New York state troopers attempted to stop a 2009 Honda Civic, the vehicle known to be driven by Venable. She refused to comply with the traffic stop, leading to a pursuit that reached speeds of up to 100 mph.

Following the deployment of tire deflation devices, Venable crashed the Civic. She was then arrested without incident and taken to a local hospital as a precautionary measure.

Victims identified

The victims of the alleged murders have been identified as 77-year-old Robert John McGuire, 60-year-old Gregory Scott Powell, and 65-year-old Carol Anne Reese, all residents of Spotsylvania.

The investigation began after a welfare check was conducted at a residence on White Street, where the three victims were found deceased with signs of upper body trauma.

Legal Charges

Venable is facing three counts of second-degree murder and one count of using a firearm while committing a felony. She was identified as a suspect shortly after the discovery of the victims, leading to the issuance of an arrest warrant.

The Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the case and work with authorities in New York to ensure justice is served.
