CLARKSON, Ky. (WBKO) – Three individuals found themselves in trouble with the law after their car stalled in the middle of a roadway in Grayson County, leading to a series of unexpected events on Thursday.
Authorities were alerted to the situation after receiving a complaint about a blue car blocking traffic in front of a beekeeping facility. Upon arrival, officers discovered two people asleep in the back seat of the vehicle, with a dog occupying the front seat.
Sheriff Norman Chaffins was the first to respond to the scene, where he was greeted by the barking dog that eventually woke the individuals in the car. The man, who identified himself as Alex Hayse, provided his Kentucky driver’s license, while the woman, who remained unidentified at the time, shared her personal details with the sheriff.
As the investigation unfolded, the driver of the vehicle, Richard W. May from Harold, Ky., returned with a gallon of gasoline, explaining that the car had run out of fuel. However, the situation took a turn when May suddenly vomited in the middle of the road.
The events escalated further when “Alex Hayse” collapsed onto the asphalt, revealing his true identity as John D. Absher from Bunker Hill, Ind. The woman, who had initially provided false information, was later identified as Casey M. Lester from Tollesboro, Ky.
Absher, who suffered a seizure, was administered Narcan by Sheriff Chaffins to counteract a potential opioid overdose. He was subsequently transferred to Norton’s in Louisville for further medical attention.
Lester, on the other hand, had multiple active warrants for her arrest, including charges related to parole violations, public intoxication, possession of a controlled substance (meth), burglary, and theft.
A search of the vehicle by GCSO K-9 Zeus and Deputy Sean Fentress uncovered methamphetamines hidden in a snuff container on the console. As a result, all three occupants are now facing charges of possession of a controlled substance (meth).
The dog found in the car was taken into custody by Animal Control and is currently housed at the Grayson County Animal Shelter.
Absher is expected to join May and Lester at the Grayson County Detention Center once he is medically cleared.
