WALTON COUNTY, Fla. (WMBB) – Shock and panic gripped the beachgoers near Watersound in Walton County on Friday as two separate shark attacks left two individuals injured.

Update on the Victims

One of the victims, a 40-year-old woman, has tragically lost her left hand in one of the shark attacks.

Details of the Incidents

The incidents occurred just after 1:15 p.m., prompting a swift response from Walton County Fire and Rescue and South Walton Fire District (SWFD) to the scene near Watersound Way and Coopersmith Lane. The woman was reportedly bitten by a shark, leading to immediate emergency measures being taken.

Following the attacks, double red flags were raised on the beach, signalling the closure of the Gulf to the public in the affected area of Walton County. This precautionary measure was taken to ensure the safety of beach visitors in light of the recent incidents.

The injured woman was swiftly transported by SWFD personnel to receive medical attention. At this time, the extent of her injuries remains undisclosed.
