One individual was taken to the hospital following a collision involving a truck and an apartment building in Sitka early this morning (6-4-24).
According to Serena Wild, a spokesperson for the Sitka Police Department, an officer on duty spotted a white pickup truck exceeding the speed limit by 30 miles per hour in the 1900 block of Halibut Point Road around 5 a.m. The officer activated emergency lights, prompting the truck to accelerate and make a left turn onto Peterson Avenue. Unfortunately, the driver lost control and crashed into the apartment building, causing significant damage to a bedroom wall and injuring an adult male occupant.
The injured individual was rushed to Mt. Edgecumbe Medical Center with a head injury. The driver, a 16-year-old male whose identity has not been disclosed, emerged from the incident unscathed. However, he is facing multiple charges, including felony assault and driving under the influence.
