The Lagos State Police Command has apprehended two infamous members of a criminal syndicate that specializes in the brutal killing of drivers working for ride-hailing apps, followed by the illegal sale of their vehicles. The suspects, identified as Roqib Moshood and his alleged accomplice Olawale Kolawole, have been taken into custody. Authorities are currently in pursuit of other fugitive gang members, including one named Yusuf Adeyemi.

The shocking incident that led to the arrest of Moshood and Kolawole involved the murder of a ride-hailing app driver named Oluwaseun Adeniran. The perpetrators callously disposed of Adeniran’s body by the roadside after perpetrating the heinous crime and stealing his vehicle. According to sources, the suspects frequently manipulated unsuspecting individuals to assist in facilitating their criminal activities.

In a particularly disturbing case, Moshood, who is just 22 years old, coerced his neighbour’s son, Taofiq Sanni, into arranging a ride with the victim, Adeniran. The fateful journey commenced from the Ojodu area and culminated near the Fagbem Filling Station, close to the Long Bridge section of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. It was during this journey that the suspects executed their nefarious plan.

Modus Operandi of the Criminals

As the journey progressed, Moshood and Adeyemi directed the driver to take a secluded route beside the Long Bridge under the guise of picking up a friend. Moshood chillingly recounted the events, stating, “The incident occurred around 9 pm, and we instructed the driver to pass through Fagbem to access the desolate road beside the Long Bridge. We were familiar with the area’s isolation and convinced him by stating we were meeting a friend there.”

He further detailed the harrowing account, narrating how he restrained the driver with a rope while Adeyemi fatally stabbed him in the chest and delivered a fatal blow to his head. Following the driver’s demise, the suspects callously discarded his body and absconded with the vehicle. Moshood confessed to similar crimes involving the murder of two other e-hailing drivers using the same deceitful tactics.

Collaboration and Sale of Stolen Vehicles

Moshood revealed that he collaborated with Kolawole, who was unaware of the origins of the stolen vehicles. Leveraging his expertise as a car painter, Moshood managed to sell the stolen vehicle for a substantial sum. He recounted the sale of a Toyota Camry to a buyer for over N1 million, attributing his success to Kolawole’s involvement in the transaction.

Kolawole, on the other hand, acknowledged his inadvertent role in the crime, stating that he was arrested for posing as the vehicle’s owner during the sale. He further recounted the buyer’s subsequent threats and his eventual realization of Moshood’s heinous acts. Kolawole played a pivotal role in assisting authorities in capturing Moshood.

Police Investigation and Pursuit of Fugitive Members

Following Adeniran’s disappearance, his family reported a missing person case to the Alausa Division of the state police command. An intensive investigation led law enforcement officers to the apprehension of Moshood and Kolawole. Authorities are diligently working to track down the remaining members of the criminal syndicate who are currently evading capture.

The arrest of the suspects serves as a poignant reminder of the dangers posed by criminal elements within society. The swift action taken by the Lagos State Police Command underscores their commitment to upholding justice and ensuring the safety of citizens.

As the investigation unfolds and efforts intensify to capture all members of the syndicate, the public is urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to law enforcement authorities. The apprehension of these criminals is a testament to the collaborative efforts of the police and the community in combating crime and preserving peace within the region.
