Robert Delacruz : “Wilmington Men Arrested for Gunrunning”

35-year-old Robert Delacruz, a resident of Wilmington, has been taken into custody by the authorities for his involvement in gunrunning, unlawful sale of firearms (3 counts), possession of a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Alongside Delacruz, 37-year-old Aaron David, also from Wilmington, has been arrested for gunrunning, unlawful sale of firearms (3 counts), and possession of a controlled substance.

The arrests came after a detailed narcotics investigation carried out in the first half of 2024, during which Delacruz and David were suspected of engaging in the illegal sale of multiple firearms. It is alleged that the duo exchanged firearms for cash and narcotics with various individuals during this period.

On June 3, 2024, law enforcement officials from the Joliet Police Department, Will County Sheriff’s Office, Grundy County Sheriff’s Office, and Wilmington Police Department jointly executed search warrants at the residences of Delacruz and David.

During the search of Delacruz’s residence on Fulton Street in Wilmington, authorities recovered a handgun, ammunition, and drug paraphernalia. Similarly, a search of David’s residence on Coal City Road in Wilmington led to the discovery of six rifles, seven handguns, and ammunition.

Prior to the execution of the search warrants, Delacruz and David were spotted in a vehicle near East Mississippi Avenue in Elwood. A routine traffic stop revealed the presence of fentanyl in the vehicle. Both individuals were taken into custody without any resistance, processed at the Joliet Police Department, and subsequently transferred to the Will County Adult Detention Facility. The Joliet Police Department expressed gratitude to their law enforcement partners for their collaboration in this case.
