Accident – Death – Obituary News : JOLIET — In a joint effort with multiple area police agencies, the Joliet Police Department successfully apprehended two individuals from Wilmington involved in the illegal activity of gunrunning, as confirmed by police spokesperson Dwayne English.

Following a thorough investigation, 35-year-old Robert Delacruz and his accomplice, 37-year-old Aaron David, both residents of Wilmington, were taken into custody and charged with gunrunning, three counts of unlawful gun sales, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

According to English, the arrests of Delacruz and David had been in the works for several months. The intensive narcotics investigation conducted in the first half of 2024 revealed that the duo had been engaging in the illegal sale of firearms for cash and narcotics.

On the day of the raid, members of the Joliet Police Department’s narcotics, tactical, and K9 units, along with officers from the Will County Sheriff’s Office, Grundy County Sheriff’s Office, and the Wilmington Police Department, executed search warrants at the residences of Delacruz and David.

During the search of Delacruz’s home on Fulton Street in Wilmington, law enforcement recovered a handgun, ammunition, and drug paraphernalia. Similarly, a search of David’s residence on Coal City Road in Wilmington led to the seizure of six rifles, seven handguns, and additional ammunition.

Prior to the search warrants being executed, Delacruz and David were observed in a vehicle near East Mississippi Avenue in Elwood. A traffic stop was initiated, resulting in the discovery of fentanyl in the vehicle. Both individuals were taken into custody without resistance, processed at the Joliet Police Department, and transported to the Will County Adult Detention Facility.

“The Joliet Police Department extends its gratitude to our law enforcement partners for their collaboration in this operation,” English expressed.
