Accident – Death – Obituary News :

NYERI, Kenya, Jun 5 — Authorities in Karatina have apprehended a 34-year-old businesswoman from Kwale for her involvement in a disturbing case of child trafficking in Mathaithi village, located on the outskirts of Karatina town.

The suspect, identified as Nelly Kitawa Mwangi, was taken into custody by the police after a thorough investigation uncovered her purchase of a two-day-old infant from a 28-year-old mother of two.

The arrest of the infant’s mother was triggered by her inability to account for the baby’s whereabouts upon her discharge from the hospital, prompting law enforcement to launch a search operation.

Tragically, the search led to the discovery of the infant’s lifeless body in a shallow grave. Authorities suspect that the child met a grim fate due to suffocation, possibly as part of a sinister attempt by the suspect to conceal her illicit activities.

Confirming the distressing incident, Benjamin Boen, the police chief of Mathira East, disclosed that Mary Muthoni, a suspect in child trafficking, had been taken into custody two days before the arrest of Nelly Kitawa Mwangi.

Muthoni reportedly confessed to selling the baby for a meagre sum of Sh5,000, shedding light on the callous nature of the transaction.

Boen further revealed that the apprehension of Mwangi, who happened to be Muthoni’s neighbour, led to the grim discovery of the shallow grave in a nearby coffee plantation, underscoring the sinister depths of the crime.

Both women involved in the heinous transaction are currently in police custody as preparations are made for their appearance in court to face the full force of the law.
