A tragic incident occurred on the morning of June 5 in Barangay Tinitian, Roxas, Palawan, when a Toyota Hi Ace commuter van carrying six passengers met with a devastating accident. The van, driven by Ricky Aban, 50, was en route to Puerto Princesa for a dialysis treatment for one of the passengers when it lost control at a curve along the national road.
The victim, identified as 64-year-old Milagros Cabanero, suffered severe head injuries in the crash. Along with her five relatives, she was rushed to Roxas Medicare for initial treatment before being transferred to a hospital in the city for further medical attention.
While the driver escaped with minor injuries, the passengers, including the critically injured Milagros Cabanero, required immediate medical intervention due to the severity of their head injuries. The van, which veered off the road, crashed into railings and was thrown approximately 30 meters away from the site of the accident.
Authorities from the Palawan Police Provincial Office (PPPO) have taken custody of the vehicle as part of their investigation into the cause of the accident. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of road safety and the need for vigilance while travelling on the highways of Palawan.
