Accident – Death – Obituary News :

ROUND LAKE — A rural Wilmont man, Mark Allen Hieronimus, aged 58, is facing charges in Nobles County Fifth District Court for felony-level third-degree assault and two misdemeanor charges of domestic assault following an intense standoff that took place in a Round Lake residence at the end of last month.

Law enforcement officials from the Nobles County Sheriff’s Office and Worthington Police Department received a distress call at 7 p.m. on May 23 concerning a man allegedly holding a victim hostage with a kitchen knife inside a home in Round Lake. Multiple reports had also been made about loud arguments coming from the same location.

Upon their arrival, deputies were informed by a caller that Hieronimus was holding his significant other captive inside the house and that the victim had visible scratches on their face. Despite knocking on the front door and receiving no response, the officers entered the residence and began searching for the suspect and the victim.

After a thorough search of the main floor, law enforcement officials suspected that Hieronimus and the victim were located upstairs. Efforts were made for over two hours to communicate with them, including placing calls to their cell phones. Although there was no verbal response, the officers reported hearing sounds of movement and coughing from the upper floor.

Due to the escalated nature of the situation, the High Risk Entry and Arrest Team (H.E.A.T) was called in to assist. Following their arrival on the scene, the team successfully entered the residence and apprehended Hieronimus at around 12:15 a.m. on May 24.

Mark Allen Hieronimus is scheduled to make his first court appearance on June 10. It is important to note that all individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
