Law enforcement officials in Summit County, Ohio are set to hold a news conference on Wednesday afternoon to provide the latest updates on the tragic mass shooting that occurred over the weekend, resulting in the death of a 27-year-old man.
The incident, which took place in the early hours of Sunday, June 2, saw a total of 25 individuals sustain gunshot wounds in the vicinity of Kelly and 8th Avenues in Akron.
Authorities have disclosed that the shooting unfolded during a large birthday celebration, with reports indicating that the perpetrator(s) fired shots from a vehicle, prompting some attendees to retaliate.

The victim, identified as Lateris Cook from Akron, sadly succumbed to his injuries. Of the 23 individuals who were hospitalized following the shooting, two remain in critical condition—one at Cleveland Clinic Akron General and another at Summa Health—although their identities have not been disclosed.
Akron Police Captain Michael Miller affirmed, “Detectives are tirelessly working in collaboration with local and federal law enforcement partners to crack this case. Our investigative efforts encompass examining available evidence, scrutinizing information, and conducting thorough neighborhood canvasses and interviews.”
