A Toms River man lost his life in a boating incident in Raritan Bay off Sayreville on Monday afternoon. Kenneth Halvorsen Jr., 53, was found unresponsive on his vessel, which was reportedly circling in the bay before grounding itself. The circumstances surrounding his death remain unclear as authorities continue their investigation.

State police responded to a 9-1-1 call reporting the unresponsive individual on the boat around 1:53 p.m. on June 3. By the time they arrived, the boat had come to a stop on its own. Halvorsen was rushed to a nearby hospital but was later pronounced dead.

Known affectionately as “Big Dog,” Halvorsen was described as a generous and kind-hearted man who touched the lives of many. The fundraiser has already raised nearly $6,000 in donations.
