Springfield, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) – A Springfield resident has been taken into custody following an attempted armed robbery in the city.
At approximately 2 a.m. on Monday morning, the Springfield Police Department received a report of a firearm incident on Locust Street.
Footage captured by city surveillance cameras along Main Street identified the suspect as 31-year-old Joshua Deso.
Upon locating Deso, he attempted to flee the scene but was swiftly apprehended by law enforcement officers. During the pursuit, Deso allegedly brandished a firearm towards the officers.
Following witness statements at the scene of the crime, it was revealed that Deso had reportedly threatened a group of individuals with a gun in an attempt to rob them.
A Springfield K9 unit, led by an officer and his canine partner Dusko, was deployed to search for the weapon. Dusko successfully located the firearm in the vicinity where Deso had attempted to evade capture.
Further investigation revealed that the recovered gun had been reported stolen from Burlington, Vermont.
Joshua Deso now faces multiple charges in connection with the incident.
