The driver accused of causing the tragic deaths of a family of three in a horrific Memorial Day crash in Garner has been formally charged with three counts of second-degree murder, as per an indictment from a state grand jury on Tuesday.

The devastating incident occurred when Jordan Porter, behind the wheel of a Chevy Trailblazer, allegedly ran a red light while travelling west on U.S. 70. The vehicle collided with a blue Mazda CX5 Select and a black Cadillac Escalade at the intersection, as reported by the Garner Police Department.

In the Mazda were 28-year-old Tyler Campbell and 29-year-old Susan Campbell, who tragically succumbed to their injuries at the scene. Their 8-year-old son, Miles, was rushed to WakeMed in critical condition and was later declared brain dead, according to a family member.

Porter, who sustained minor injuries in the crash and was taken to the hospital for treatment, was initially charged with driving while impaired. However, following further investigation and evidence, the charges were elevated to three counts of second-degree murder.

Porter is set to make his first court appearance at 9 a.m. on Thursday, where he will face the serious allegations against him in relation to the devastating Memorial Day incident in Garner.
