SALEM Ore. (KPTV) – Authorities have apprehended a suspect in relation to a series of bank robberies that occurred in Salem.
The Salem Police SWAT team executed a warrant and took Jason Lee Welty into custody on Tuesday. The 50-year-old individual was transported to Marion County Jail and has been identified as the primary suspect facing charges including:
- Three counts of second-degree robbery
- Three counts of theft
- Three counts of menacing
The initial robbery took place on May 21 at the Valley Credit Union. Subsequently, two more incidents were reported, with the second robbery occurring at the Chase Bank just two days later, followed by the third incident on May 31 at the Northwest Community Credit Union in Albany.
All three incidents took place in the afternoon and involved a suspect brandishing a handgun, demanding money from the bank tellers, and absconding with varying amounts of cash from each establishment.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported in any of the robberies.
