Accident – Death – Obituary News :

The Northern Colorado Drug Task Force has apprehended a male resident of Eaton in connection with the distribution of thousands of illicit fentanyl pills and methamphetamine in Northern Colorado. The suspect, identified as 26-year-old German Baez, was allegedly involved in the distribution of illegal narcotics in the region and had ties to the Sinaloa drug cartel.

In March, undercover detectives from the task force and the Drug Enforcement Administration initiated communication with a suspect regarding the distribution of controlled substances, as per a press release issued on Wednesday. Subsequent investigations revealed that Baez was involved in the distribution of illegal drugs in the area.

During the months of April and May, investigators managed to seize approximately 10 pounds of methamphetamine and 2,500 fentanyl pills through covert drug transactions. In May, it was discovered that Baez intended to travel to California and send narcotics to Colorado via mail. Law enforcement intercepted five packages containing methamphetamine and fentanyl concealed within children’s toys.

Continued covert communication with Baez led to an agreement to sell investigators 40,000 fentanyl pills. On May 23, when Baez arrived at a prearranged location in the 4700 block of Ronald Reagan Boulevard in Johnstown, he was promptly arrested by law enforcement. Subsequently, search warrants were executed at properties associated with Baez, resulting in the seizure of 26 pounds of methamphetamine and 19 pounds of fentanyl, equating to over 85,000 dose units.

Larimer County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Mark Hertz, who serves as the NCDTF commander, stated, “The NCDTF and our partners at the District Attorney’s Office will continue to hold drug traffickers accountable for distributing Fentanyl into our communities. Removing these amounts of Fentanyl from our area undoubtedly saved lives.”

Baez has been charged with multiple drug-related offences, including importation of a controlled substance, distribution of controlled substances, possession with intent to distribute, and possession of fentanyl. He is currently held at the Larimer County Jail on a $1 million cash-only bond and is scheduled to appear before 8th Judicial District Court Judge Sarah Cure on June 18.

DEA Rocky Mountain Field Division Acting Special Agent in Charge David Olesky remarked, “Record Fentanyl seizures and record overdose numbers are making the news every day across our nation, and Colorado is not immune. Fentanyl is now the leading cause of death among Americans aged 18 to 45. The only way to combat this epidemic is through collaboration.”
