Man who inherited widow torches her house following disagreement

A 37-year-old widow in Siaya County, Grace Auma Oyugi, was forced to endure a night in the cold after her house was allegedly set ablaze by a man who had inherited her, identified as Isaiah Goro.

According to police reports, the incident took place in Karadolo East sub-location in Ugenya Sub County. Oyugi and Goro had a disagreement which escalated into a violent confrontation.

Siaya County police commander, Cleti Kimaiyo, stated, “Her house was set on fire, forcing her to flee for safety to a nearby residence. When she returned, she discovered her home completely destroyed. Goro, the 32-year-old suspect, was nowhere to be found.”

Oyugi promptly reported the incident to the Ratado police station, estimating her losses at around Ksh.54,000 in property damage. The authorities launched a search for Goro, eventually apprehending him. He is scheduled to appear before a court in Ukwala on Wednesday to face charges.

The shocking act of arson has left the community in disbelief, with many expressing outrage at the violence inflicted upon Oyugi. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the vulnerability faced by widows in society and the urgent need for protection and support for individuals in such situations.

As the case progresses through the legal system, Oyugi remains determined to seek justice and rebuild her life after the traumatic events that unfolded in her own home.
