McConnellsburg Man Charged with Providing Marijuana Products to High School Students

05 June 2024- A McConnellsburg man, Gavin McKenzie Shetler, is facing serious charges after allegedly distributing marijuana products to students at Central Fulton High School in Pennsylvania. The charges against Shetler include felony delivery of a controlled substance and misdemeanor corruption of minors. Following his arrest, Shetler was granted a nonmonetary bail and released to await his next court appearance.

The investigation into Shetler’s actions began when Pennsylvania State Police received a tip on April 29th that a teacher at Central Fulton High School had brought a weed pen and THC-infused gummy to school and allowed students to use them. Gavin Shetler, identified as the teacher in question, is listed as a Computer Networking Instructor at CFHS.

Subsequent interviews with three students at the school confirmed the allegations, with the students stating that Shetler provided them with the weed pen and gummy, which some of them consumed. One of the students, a 17-year-old, admitted to trying the gummy and experiencing its psychoactive effects. The investigation also revealed that Shetler had communicated with students via the messaging platform Discord, where he allegedly discussed the THC-infused products.

During his interview with PSP, Shetler claimed that the vape pen contained only CBD and not THC, and the gummy was also CBD-based with no THC. However, further interviews with the students contradicted Shetler’s claims, stating that the gummy specifically mentioned THC as an ingredient. One student even mentioned the strain of the vape pen as “blue diesel” containing THCA, which can be converted into THC through a heating process used in vape pens.

THCA is the acidic form of THC, and while it is non-intoxicating in its raw state, it can be converted into THC through decarboxylation. Shetler’s actions of providing these products to students led to his arrest on charges of distributing a controlled substance.

Legal Proceedings and Current Status

Gavin Shetler is currently out on a nonmonetary bail as he awaits his court date. The case has raised concerns among parents and school officials about the safety and well-being of students at Central Fulton High School.
