A 29-year-old man has been taken into custody by the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office after allegedly touching a pre-teen child at a library in Forsyth County. The incident occurred at the Post Road Library on June 4 at around 3 p.m.
According to reports, the victim’s mother contacted authorities after another library patron witnessed the man inappropriately touching her child in the children’s section of the library. The suspect, identified as 29-year-old Akshay Kumar Singh, was swiftly apprehended by law enforcement officers within three and a half hours of the incident.
Singh has been charged with child molestation and sexual battery against a child. Sheriff Freeman commended the quick actions of the library supervisor and the witness, stating that their collaboration played a crucial role in identifying and apprehending the suspect in a timely manner.
Speaking on the matter, Sheriff Freeman stated, “It is partnerships like these that keep our children and our citizens safe. This type of crime is not tolerated by the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office or the citizens of Forsyth County. We are working closely with our District Attorney’s office to see this offender held accountable for his actions and appreciate their immediate action as well.”
Due to concerns about potential additional victims, the Sheriff’s Office has chosen not to release Singh’s mug shot at this time in order to avoid tainting any potential photo lineups.
The Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office urges anyone with information related to this incident or who may have been a victim of similar crimes to come forward and assist in the investigation.
