ORLANDO, Fla. An intense high-speed chase that spanned across three counties in Florida came to a dramatic end on Monday morning, resulting in the arrest of the driver involved.

The chaotic incident unfolded shortly after 10 a.m. when a Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) trooper attempted to pull over a 2015 Chrysler 200 speeding westbound on Interstate 4 near DeLand in Volusia County. The driver, identified as 26-year-old Wilfred Ruiz from Orlando, was reportedly racing down the highway at a staggering speed of 115 mph. Ignoring the trooper’s signal to stop, Ruiz fled the scene, driving recklessly and triggering a pursuit by the FHP.

The chase escalated as it crossed into Seminole County, where Ruiz’s vehicle collided with a white box truck. Despite the crash, Ruiz continued to evade capture and pushed forward into Orange County. It was there that troopers made the decision to execute a Precision Immobilization Technique (PIT) maneuver to bring the pursuit to a halt. The manoeuvre caused Ruiz’s sedan to crash into a concrete wall, but he made a desperate attempt to escape by ramming into the patrol cars.

Wilfred Ruiz, 26, faces multiple charges, including fleeing and eluding, fleeing with disregard for the safety of persons or property, possession of cocaine and intent to sell, and fraud.

During the interception, troopers managed to corner the vehicle against the median, forcing it to a stop. Upon approaching the sedan, a trooper observed signs of an overdose in Ruiz and promptly administered Narcan, successfully reviving him.

Ruiz, who was already on probation for aggravated assault and did not possess a valid driver’s license, was taken into custody and transported to Advent Health Orlando for medical clearance before being booked into Orange County Jail.

The subsequent investigation of Ruiz’s vehicle unveiled a black purse containing identification and credit cards belonging to other individuals, alongside a small bag of cocaine, multiple plastic baggies, and a digital scale.

The reckless pursuit resulted in substantial damage to two FHP vehicles, which had to be towed for repairs.

As a result of his actions, Ruiz now faces a string of charges, including fleeing and eluding, fleeing with disregard for the safety of individuals or property, possession of cocaine with intent to sell, and fraud.
