A man in Florida has been taken into custody after allegedly breaking into a local church and attempting to strike a police officer with a Stanley cup.

Timothy Bornman, aged 24, was arrested and charged with burglary, criminal mischief, battery on a law enforcement officer, and resisting arrest with violence following an incident at The Mission Church in Palm Bay on Saturday, as reported by the Palm Bay Police Department.

Shortly after 5:15 p.m., law enforcement officers were dispatched to the church on Emerson Drive NW in response to a report of a man gaining unauthorized entry. Bornman allegedly forced his way into the church’s shed, obtained a sledgehammer, and proceeded to break the front door in order to gain access. Subsequently, he proceeded to cause extensive damage to the property, resulting in over $10,000 worth of destruction, according to police statements.

Officers encountered a man, later identified as Bornman, who was walking around the church’s parking lot, verbally abusing and intimidating church attendees, according to an arrest report.

“I will harm you,” Bornman allegedly threatened an officer as he approached, as stated in the report.

Disregarding directives to surrender, Bornman attempted to strike the officer in the head with a metal Stanley cup, law enforcement officials narrated. Fortunately, the officer managed to evade the blow, albeit sustaining a minor shoulder injury.
