Unfortunately, hate crimes against the 2SLGBTQIA+ community are escalating, as reported by Canadians United Against Hate. Statistics Canada’s 2021 census disclosed that 1 in every 300 individuals aged 15 and above in Canada identifies as transgender or non-binary.
Canada has witnessed a surge in protests mirroring the transphobia, biphobia, and homophobia prevalent in certain parts of the United States. Instances of book bans, protests, and threats of violence have become more pronounced. Within this challenging climate, Eli Mitchell’s personal journey unfolds.
Elizabeth Mitchell relocated to Sidney in January 2018 post her retirement from a career as a radio operator with the Canadian Coast Guard.
