In Pontian, a search and rescue (SAR) operation has been initiated to locate a fisherman who went missing after falling into Sungai Benut. The missing individual has been identified as 52-year-old Samsudin Bachok, who disappeared on Monday (June 3).

Pontian OCPD Supt Mohammad Shofee Tayib confirmed that the victim’s wife reported him missing at 9.04am on Tuesday (June 4) when he failed to return home. The concerned wife mentioned that her husband had left their residence on Monday without taking his mobile phone and did not come back.

Upon investigation, the wife discovered her husband’s motorcycle parked behind a pallet factory near Sungai Benut, leading her to believe that he might have accidentally fallen into the river. Supt Mohammad Shofee also noted that the missing fisherman holds a physical handicap card due to a limp in his right leg.

SAR Operation Involving Multiple Agencies

Following the report, a search and rescue operation was immediately launched, involving 18 personnel from the police, Marine Police Region II, Fire and Rescue Department, and Civil Defence Force. The operation aims to locate and rescue Samsudin Bachok from Sungai Benut.

Several local fishermen reported sighting the missing fisherman along the riverbank of Sungai Benut on Monday evening, prompting the urgent response from the authorities. The collaborative effort from multiple agencies underscores the importance of swift action in search and rescue missions.
