A man was taken into custody in Marlboro County, South Carolina, after law enforcement officials discovered he was driving a stolen vehicle.

The Marlboro County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a suspicious vehicle on New Bridge Road on Tuesday. Upon arriving at the scene, a deputy spotted a man later identified as Roger Locklear refueling the vehicle using a red plastic gas can.

Locklear claimed that he had run out of gas, prompting the deputy to continue on patrol. However, a short while later, the same deputy observed Locklear walking in the vicinity. Upon returning to the vehicle, it was determined that it had been reported stolen from Scotland County, North Carolina, after the VIN number was checked.

Subsequently, Locklear was located and apprehended by officers from the McColl Police Department before being taken into custody by the sheriff’s office. He now faces a charge of possession of stolen property exceeding £10,000 and is currently being held at the Marlboro County Detention Center pending a bond hearing.
