Man Arrested for Allegedly Murdering Father in Masindi

Authorities in Masindi have apprehended a 30-year-old man, identified as Nelson Okecha, on suspicion of killing his father, Alex Omochi, who was 60 years old. Both individuals were residents of Nyakabaale Village in Kiruuli Sub-County, Masindi District.

Police Report Details of the Crime

According to SP Julius Allan Hakiza, the Albertine Region Police Public Relations Officer, Okecha is accused of fatally injuring his father, who also served as the Nyakabaale Village Chairman. The tragic incident occurred following a clan meeting organized by the deceased, during which neighbours raised concerns about Okecha’s alleged involvement in multiple thefts, including the theft of solar panels and a woofer.

Witnesses Describe the Events Leading to the Tragedy

Henry Kisasi, a local resident, recounted that Okecha was confronted during the meeting and asked to explain his actions, which reportedly triggered a violent reaction. In a fit of rage, Okecha is said to have attacked his father with a machete, resulting in his untimely demise.

Community Shocked by Tragic Outcome

Witnesses described the moment Okecha launched the fatal attack, causing panic among those present at the meeting. The swift intervention of the police prevented further escalation of the violence, and the victim’s body was taken to Masindi General Hospital for further examination.

Suspect Apprehended and Set to Face Legal Consequences

Following a period of evading authorities, Okecha was eventually captured by law enforcement officers. SP Hakiza confirmed that the suspect will be charged with murder and is awaiting formal prosecution pending approval from the Resident State Attorney.
