State police have confirmed that a 40-year-old man from Royersford, Montgomery County, has tragically passed away after being shot in the head during an apparent road rage incident on the Pennsylvania Turnpike last Friday. The suspect, a 59-year-old man from Dinwiddie, Va., was later found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound in Berks County.

The victim succumbed to his injuries on Monday at Reading Hospital, according to state police reports. The suspect’s body was discovered the following day in the parking lot of a shopping complex on Crossings Boulevard in Caernarvon Township, Berks County. He was found inside the cab of a white tractor-trailer that had been identified as a vehicle of interest in the case.

Although the names of the individuals involved have not been released, authorities believe that the motive behind the shooting was related to a road rage incident. The tragic event unfolded on Friday afternoon around 1:15 p.m. on the eastbound lane of the turnpike at mile marker 291.3 in Brecknock Township, Lancaster County.

State police are urging any potential witnesses who were travelling on the turnpike between the Lebanon-Lancaster and Reading interchanges between 12:45 p.m. and 1:15 p.m. on Friday to come forward with any information. They can contact the Lancaster state police at 717-299-7650.
