The tragic event occurred on Sunday morning at approximately 11:39 a.m. when the Des Moines Police Department received a distressing report. The report detailed a vehicle that had collided with a tree, resulting in the tragic death of Jose Manuel Clark in the 5400 block of SE 5th Street. The victim succumbed to his injuries at the scene, leaving behind a grieving community.

In the aftermath of the tragic incident, the Des Moines Police swiftly took action and apprehended the driver responsible for the fatal accident. The driver has been identified as 23-year-old Andi Gael Cardenas, who was allegedly involved in a hit and run prior to the fatal crash. The hit and run incident occurred in the 1000 block of SE Army Post Road, after which Cardenas fled the scene and proceeded northbound on SE 5th Street. Following the incident, Andi Gael Cardenas was taken into custody and booked into the Polk County Jail.
