TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — A Florida woman had a terrifying encounter last week when she discovered an escaped inmate in her vehicle.
Authorities received a call from the Lady Lake Police Department shortly after 4:40 a.m. reporting a vehicle burglary in progress.
The woman recounted hearing the passenger alarm on her BMW go off, prompting her to investigate. Upon opening the passenger door, she was startled as Jesse Hall, 31, seized her arm. Despite the frightening ordeal, she managed to break free and seek safety inside her home, where she armed herself before law enforcement arrived, as detailed in the arrest affidavit.
Hall attempted to flee when officers located him near the BMW. However, he was eventually apprehended and surrendered while being held at gunpoint.
During a search of Hall, a small key fob-like Taser, belonging to the victim, was discovered on his person. The woman, visibly distraught, exited her residence in tears.
Subsequent investigations revealed that a black Nokia cellphone found in the car, which did not belong to the woman, was claimed by Hall. The phone had received multiple calls from an individual named “Joe DiBlasi.”
According to Hall, his friend Joe had dropped him off to meet a woman in the neighbourhood, where “stuff went down.” He insisted that footage from the woman’s house cameras would corroborate his account.
Initially providing a false name, “Jess Hillman,” Hall’s true identity as Jesse James Hall was confirmed through fingerprint scans. It was uncovered that the 31-year-old had escaped from an Orlando prison on May 22, following a seven-year sentence in 2019 for grand theft auto and various drug-related offences.
Hall was subsequently transported to Lake County Jail, where he remains held without bond.
