TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — A Florida woman had a terrifying encounter last week when she discovered an escaped inmate, identified as Jesse Hall, 31, in her vehicle.
Vehicle Burglary Incident
Shortly after 4:40 a.m., the Lady Lake Police Department responded to a call about a vehicle burglary in progress. The woman reported hearing the passenger alarm of her BMW go off and found Hall inside her car, grabbing her arm when she opened the passenger door.
Fortunately, the woman managed to break free and retreat back into her home, where she armed herself before the authorities arrived, according to the arrest affidavit.
Apprehension of the Escaped Inmate
Police located Hall near the BMW, but he fled before being apprehended. He was eventually captured and surrendered while being held at gunpoint by the authorities.
During a search, a small key fob-like Taser was found on Hall’s person, which belonged to the victim. Body camera footage captured the moment of Hall’s arrest as he lay down in the middle of a road.
Discovery of Stolen Items
Upon searching the car, officials found a black Nokia cellphone that did not belong to the woman but was claimed by Hall. The phone, which received calls from someone named “Joe DiBlasi,” was linked to an incident Hall referred to as “stuff going down.”
Hall initially provided a false name, “Jess Hillman,” but his true identity as Jesse James Hall was confirmed through fingerprint scanning. It was revealed that Hall had escaped from an Orlando prison on May 22 and was serving a seven-year sentence for grand theft auto and drug-related offences.
Legal Proceedings
Hall was taken to Lake County Jail and is being held without bond as he awaits further legal proceedings.
