Accident – Death – Obituary News :

Shortly after a disturbing video surfaced showing a 19-year-old individual assaulting a traffic police officer on Kamiti Road in Kasarani, Nairobi, the incident sparked outrage among law enforcement officials and led to a swift pursuit of the suspect.

Upon viewing the viral video, Nairobi police boss Adamson Bungei was reportedly incensed and wasted no time in demanding the immediate arrest of the perpetrator. In a heated communication exchange with the Kasarani Police Station commander, Mr. Bungei’s message was clear and direct: “I want that man apprehended and detained without delay.”

Subsequently, a coordinated effort involving multiple law enforcement agencies was launched to locate the assailant, identified as Ian Njoroge, who was captured on camera assaulting the traffic officer. The search operation, mandated by Mr. Bungei, extended to all officers under the jurisdiction of Kasarani Police Station and neighbouring areas where the incident took place.

Acting on valuable information provided by a matatu (minibus taxi) crew that witnessed and recorded the assault, the police initiated the hunt for the suspect’s vehicle. Despite attempts by members of the public to apprehend the teenager, he managed to evade capture by fleeing in his car.

A joint team comprising officers from Kasarani Police Station and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau meticulously gathered crucial leads, including CCTV footage of the getaway vehicle and the suspect’s mobile phone number.

Reports indicate a palpable sense of indignation among the National Police Service personnel following the brazen attack on their fellow officer, who is reported to be 55 years old. After an intensive search lasting eight hours, the police raided a residence in Jacaranda Estate but failed to locate the suspect. Subsequently, they tracked the mobile phone signal of the wanted man to the Eastlands area.

The fugitive was eventually apprehended from a flat where his acquaintance resides, according to the police. In response to the incident, the Independent Police Oversight Authority (IPOA) condemned the assault and urged the public to report any grievances with law enforcement to the agency for proper investigation.

IPOA’s Chairperson, Anne Makori, stated, “Kenyans who feel aggrieved by police actions or services should lodge complaints with the authority for thorough scrutiny.” The suspect is scheduled to appear in court on June 4, in the morning.
