Accident – Death – Obituary News :

Driver Ian Njoroge, who was captured in a widely circulated video assaulting a police officer along Kamiti Road, has made an appearance in court.

The man who handcuffed Njoroge was clad in a red hoodie and black trousers, with a police officer accompanying him.

Ian was apprehended later in a residence where he was hiding in Kayole, Nairobi. Authorities had announced that he would face charges including attempted murder.

The driver, identified by the police as Njoroge, was taken into custody in the Jacaranda area on Sunday night as he purportedly made arrangements to relocate.

Law enforcement had stated that he was aware of being sought after and had reached out to an acquaintance for assistance in moving to the Jacaranda estate from his Balozi estate.

All efforts had been redirected towards locating the driver after he physically assaulted a 55-year-old police officer along Kamiti Road.

The disturbing altercation was captured on camera, sparking public outrage. The incident unfolded on Sunday morning.

The episode transpired following a traffic incident at Mirema junction, where the driver was involved in an altercation with another occupant in a saloon car after making an erroneous U-turn around 8 am on Sunday.

As police approached the scene, the driver veered off the road and became stuck in a ditch. Corporal Jacob Ogendo arrived at the scene and assisted in extracting the car from the ditch, instructing the driver to proceed to Kasarani police station as he occupied the co-driver seat.

After driving a short distance and reaching the vicinity of a supermarket in the area, the driver reportedly pulled the handbrake and retrieved a sword from beneath his seat, causing the officer to vacate the vehicle for his safety. The officer sustained minor injuries as a result, according to a police report on the incident. The driver subsequently pursued him outside and proceeded to physically assault him.

The officer fell to the ground during the assault, sustaining a leg injury. Colleagues mentioned that he also aggravated a pre-existing leg injury during the altercation.

It was not until motorists in another vehicle arrived at the scene that the assailant fled. An accomplice was apprehended at the site, and it was reported that the driver absconded with the police communication device that was in the car.

The injured police officer was initially taken to a local private hospital before being transferred to Mama Lucy Hospital for further medical attention.
