Bartow County, GA – A heartbreaking tragedy unfolded at Lake Allatoona last week, as a 23-year-old man lost his life in a drowning incident just days after his sister’s high school graduation.
The incident occurred on May 30 at Cooper’s Day Use Area around 4:15 p.m. Witnesses reported that the victim, identified as Alonso Feliciano Alvarado Tojin, submerged while swimming and failed to resurface.
Game Wardens initiated a search for Tojin using side scan sonar, enlisting the assistance of Bartow County firefighters and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Rangers in the operation.
Tragically, Tojin’s lifeless body was discovered in 10 feet of water at approximately 6 p.m., bringing a devastating end to the search efforts.
Hailing from Guatemala, Tojin’s family expressed their desire to lay him to rest in his homeland. Tojin’s sister, Beatrice Tojin, paid tribute to her brother, describing him as a person brimming with dreams whose life was cut short by a cruel twist of fate.
In a heartfelt message, Beatrice Tojin appealed to the public for support in fulfilling her brother’s final wish, expressing gratitude for any assistance provided. She highlighted the profound impact of her brother’s untimely passing and the importance of honouring his memory.
Beatrice’s recent graduation from Cartersville High School on May 25 added another layer of poignancy to the family’s grief, underscoring the bittersweet nature of their recent celebrations.
