CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — A blood trail leading away from Downtown aided Corpus Christi Police Department officers in locating the man suspected of fatally stabbing Anthony Gomez in the early hours of Sunday morning. According to the probable cause report filed in relation to his arrest, officers were able to follow the trail to apprehend the suspect.

Eye witnesses reported seeing a man, later identified as Ruben Castro, forcefully opening the driver’s side door of the vehicle Gomez was in and launching a violent attack. The witness recounted how Castro dragged Gomez out of the car onto the street and continued the assault before fleeing the scene.

Following the information provided by witnesses, officers pursued Castro as he moved away from the waterfront, heading north of Mesquite Street. Tracking the blood droplets, officers followed the trail up the stairs near the Corpus Christi Caller-Times building until they eventually located Castro near Buffalo Street and Artesian Street in Uptown Corpus Christi.

Upon apprehending him, Castro was found in possession of a knife and was subsequently arrested on charges of murder. He sustained a large cut to his right biceps and a minor cut to the back of his head during the altercation and was taken to CHRISTUS Spohn Hospital-Shoreline for medical treatment.
