The community of Hastings, located in Nebraska, is mourning the loss of 71-year-old Joyce Brannon following a fatal pedestrian accident that occurred on May 29. The Hastings Police Department has confirmed the identity of the victim, who was struck while crossing the street on her electric mobility scooter at the intersection of West South Street and South Hastings Avenue.
According to Captain Jason Haase of the Hastings Police Department, witnesses reported that Brannon checked for oncoming traffic before attempting to cross the road. Unfortunately, a pickup truck travelling eastbound on South Street was unable to stop in time to avoid a collision with Brannon and her scooter.
Haase revealed that prior to the tragic accident, Brannon had experienced several close calls while operating her mobility scooter, leading authorities to speculate that age-related factors may have played a role in the incident. As a result, no charges or citations are expected to be filed against the 73-year-old driver of the pickup truck.
